I also have an image of a fresh activated xp install with all my audio tweaks and preferred system settings without any software installed. I have images of all my successful audio configurations. This is my best friend when it comes to daw safety. Norton and McAffee are both beasts as far as resources go and will never find a place on my pcs.Īlso want to echo the previous post which suggested using Acronis TrueImage. I do have AV software on my internet box and my laptop which also has audio software and NOD32 and works great. I don't have AV software on my daw as I disable the network connection and only enable it when I need to d/l updates or authorize something. It is very resource friendly and can be easily tweaked to use a bare minimum of system resources, though it still uses little resources right off of the bat too. NOD32 seems to beat the pants off of Norton and McAffee in regards to using less resources and keeping out viruses. I see this current problem as a high-tech version of a broken string or a bit of fret buzz (Besides, I have backup - a second computer and two other DAW programs).Īlthough I probably won't use the specific piece of software you recommended (True Image), as noted above, I am capable of removing the miscreant Norton product on my own if it proves necessary. That motto is a reminder to me that music transcends technology and I shouldn't let mechanical failures keep me from making and enjoying music. Note to Geokauf - Well, I didn't "let the technology get in the way of the music" - I let it get in the way of other technology.
If possible, I'd like to hear from folks who have had problems with N360 to see if it's a recent widespread phenomenon and, if so, to prod Symantec into doing something about it.
I also run Sonar 5 Studio on a laptop for portable recording.
I had no trouble with using Sonar 5 Producer with Norton Internet Security and Systemworks installed until I "upgraded" to Norton 360. Jb's comments are similar to my own experience. So, any advice to RUN AWAY from Norton is redundant (but I do appreciate your desire to help). "The obvious solution, of course, is to purge the demonic 360 from my system and use something else, but I'm interested to know if the problem is widespread."
